Biography
Dr. Beth Van Meeteren is the Director of the Regents’ Center for Early Developmental Education, the Center for Early Education in STEM and an assistant professor in Curriculum and Instruction within the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa. Dr. Van Meeteren’s research has focused on STEM in prek-2nd grade with a particular emphasis on how to develop engineering habits of mind. Dr. Van Meeteren has given numerous state, national, and international presentations and keynotes about early childhood STEM, and has published articles and has book chapters on STEM and STEM environments for young children. As Director of the Center for Early Education in STEM, she is responsible for the success of the workshops, curriculum materials, and training programs that are housed at the Regents’ Center. Dr. Van Meeteren is a charter member of the Early Childhood Science Interest Forum within the National Association for the Education of Young Children that was instrumental in the creation of the NSTA Early Childhood Science Education Position Statement.
